Beng Mealea "Lotus Pond"

After visiting the area of Koh Ker, we drove about 20 minutes back south and visited the temple ruins of Beng Mealea. This was by far the most AMAZING place I visited on this trip! If I felt like Indiana Jones the day before...this paled in comparison! We boulderd along the collapsed towers, crawled through tiny doorways and made our way around trees which have been taking over the place for the last thousand years or so. Also, what I think was so wonderful about this place was that we visited it in the late afternoon. The light coming in through the trees was a lovely warm color, which made for beautiful shadows and contrasted well with the green lichen on the stone. After touring around here, we hung out around the little “village” and played with some of the local kids before getting back in the van for the two hour ride back.
